Welcome back! We’re so excited to be getting back into the classroom with you and your students, and to share the work we’ve been focused on all summer. Across elementary, middle, and high school, we’ve made updates and additions to our resources, all designed to make your work a little bit easier, and your instruction more engaging.
2nd Grade Math is Live!
Not only have we rolled out updates to 3rd-5th grade math, but we’ve added an entirely new course. Fishtank Math is now available for 2nd Grade. Across 7 units, students will engage with four critical areas: (1) extending understanding of base-ten notation; (2) building fluency with addition and subtraction; (3) using standard units of measure; and (4) describing and analyzing shapes.
The first 5 units are already available on the site, and the last two units will be available well in advance of the time teachers will need to begin prepping for instruction as outlined in the table below.

Additional Elementary Updates
Across grades 3-5, our team has been focused on improving the usability of our fluency activities and ensuring teachers have everything they need to effectively intellectually prepare to teach every unit, lesson, and task.
Our Fluency Activities Library has been reformatted to more clearly state the standard and unit alignments, as well as the possible variations to adjust the rigor. This will help teachers more easily select which activities to use with individual groups of students in centers or with the entire class.
Across elementary units, we have completed all Unit Launches and Sample Student Responses to Anchor Tasks. Both of these resources support intellectual prep as teachers deeply engage with the material, building their pedagogical content knowledge and preparing to address any student questions.
Middle and High School Updates
At the middle and high school level, we have also been working to make improvements that support teacher intellectual prep and engaging math instruction. As part of our work to reformat the Fluency Activities Library, we also added new activities to align with 6th grade standards. Elementary teachers can use these activities as enrichment opportunities for students that are prepared to explore more complex topics, while 7th and 8th grade teachers can use these activities as spiral review. In our high school Algebra 1 course, teachers will now have access to Problem Sets for all units and lessons.
We hope these updates and additions give you even more reason to love teaching Fishtank Math.
