Unit Materials for 6th Grade Math
We recommend the MCAS reference sheet, however, other reference sheets may suffice as well.
These require some cutting, which can either be done prior to the lesson or during the lesson if scissors are provided to the students. Note, the same strips are used for both Lesson 6 and Lesson 9.

It is recommended that students use calculators in this lesson since some of the problems involve decimals. Students have experience with calculating with decimals from fifth grade, but they will study them more in depth and with fluency in Unit 3. Calculators will ensure the focus of the lesson is on the concepts and reasoning, rather than calculations (MP.5).
This lesson involves calculations with decimals. Students have worked with decimals in 5th grade, however, in order to keep the emphasis on the ratio reasoning, it is recommended to give students calculators to support their computations throughout this lesson (MP.5).
